Despite suffering a devastation knee injury at the Indonesian Masters 2019, reining World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Carolina Marin continues to train.
On January 27, the superstar from Spain faced India’s Saina Nehwal in the final of the Indonesia Masters in Jakarta. She was leading the first game 9-2 before landing awkwardly on her right leg after attempting an overhead shot.
Marin tried to continue the match, but retired after one point in tears, giving Nehwal her first BWF title in two years.

Shortly after, it was announced that Marin had ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament, also known as a torn ACL, a serious injury that takes between six month to a year to recover.

On January 29, Marin went into surgery and posted photos on social media to thank and assure her fans that she was recovering well.

Just a week after her injury, Marin posted a video showing herself back on the court training with her leg in a cast, along with the hashtag #PuedoPorquePiensoQuePuedo, which roughly translates to “I can because I believe I can.”
Here’s to wishing a Marin a speedy recovery and that she’ll be back in competition soon to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics!
